The year 2008 total for the Bride Valley, house to house
collection,Band Concert, Coffee morning,Church collections and static points around the Valley amounted to a record
£4160. An increase of 10%. A special thank you to the collectors who spent their valuable
time selling the poppies. A thank you also to all of the public houses and
firms that have a box displayed throughout the year. We must also thank St. Mary's Church, Burton Bradstock who agreed to having the collection on Remembrance Day Services donated to the Poppy Appeal
Fund and to Elaine and Peter Colbert who made a collection at their Golden Wedding celebrations.
All the year round
the Legion Benevolent Fund - The Poppy Appeal - benefits from legacies and
a huge variety of sponsored events and fund-raising functions. But the peak
of our fund-raising effort comes in the run up to the Legion's Festival of
Remembrance and Remembrance Sunday, when the nation proudly remembers those
who died that we might live.
In early November
some 350,000 legion volunteers take to the streets with poppies and
collecting boxes, raising millions of pounds for the Poppy Appeal that
funds our benevolent work.
In 2007 the total
collected was just under £30m the highest total in the Poppy Appeal history, a rise of 15% over 2006
Every year members of the Branch in November visit each of the Valleys war memorials to lay a wreath and to show their respect to the people who died in the two world wars. See a photograph taken this year at Swyre.
